HBO Climbs in Bed with Guillermo Del Toro

HBO has optioned a 1950s-set crime series that would be directed and executive produced by Guillermo del Toro.

According to Indie Wire, the show will be based on photographer Corinne May Botz’s 2004 book The Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death, which was about criminologist Frances Glessner Lee and the miniature crime scene models based on actual homicides, suicides, and accidental deaths she created in the ’40s and ’50s as a training tool for detectives.

The show has been called “Hitchcockian” and Lee’s dollhouse dioramas helped revolutionize the field of criminology. Obviously, long-time readers of the site know my affection for both HBO shows and del Toro, so this is like a dream come true.
