First New Ben Folds Five Song in a Decade, “House”

It’s been ten years since the power-pop trio Ben Folds Five have recorded music together. Their break-up was unexpected and to this particular fan a harsh blow. Sure, Folds himself has gone on to have a successful solo career.

But deep down, everyone knows that his musical output just hasn’t been as good as the days when he was making music with Darren Jesse and Robert Sledge.

There’s been a glimmer of hope, however, with the Reinhold Messner reunion in late 2008 and rumors that the three will begin recording a new BFF album this December.

Folds is set to release a three-disc career retrospective, The Best Imitation of Myself: A Retrospective, on October 11th via Legacy Recordings. Contained amongst its vast treasures, according to COS, is a little number called “House”, one of the three new Ben Folds Five songs recorded for the retrospective.

Right now, you can stream the track at The Weekly Feed or download it below. It’s good. A solid effort. Sounds more like Folds’ solo stuff than a Ben Folds Five song, but on a certain level that’s to be expected.
