America’s Non-Flag Dipping History at the Olympics

A nice follow-up to the story about American athletes and the flag, comes the story of America’s refusal to dip their flag to the host nation during the opening ceremony. Other countries see it as arrogant, but it’s become an American tradition dating back to at least the 1908 Summer games when shotputter Ralph Rose, an Irish-American, refused to symbolically bow to the King of England, according to legend.
