Director Wes Anderson teamed up with animation studio Laika (Coraline, etc.) for a series of ad spots for Sony’s new Android-based Xperia smartphone. Sony asked kids what they thought made the Xperia phones so smart, and then animated their responses. The 62-second ad required nine unique sets, 37 custom-made models, and over 10,000 man hours of labor to create, according to the Verge.
I’ve been waiting to see the full ad after seeing the brief making-of video last week (which you can watch here). It’s a clever and cute concept, but beyond that we can’t imagine anyone seeing this and thinking they’d actually want to buy one of those Xperia phones.
