I was all prepared to rip the nominations up, which is easy to do for things like comedy (since its so subjective), but these nominations feel mostly right. Best Drama has Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, Homeland, Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, and Breaking Bad.
I’m not sure there are five dramas better than those on television right now. Maybe Justified. But I can’t decide which show I would take off the list in favor of the FX drama. I was sure Homeland won last year, but it turns out that was for the Golden Globe and not the Emmy. It wasn’t even nominated last year, which makes sense, except that it’s been forever since the show was even on TV.
With shows airing whenever they want and not between the traditional TV season, isn’t it time awards shows make the criteria clearer for eligibility. Wouldn’t it make more sense to just have it be Jan. 1-Dec. 31 or something similar to the Oscars?
Shows were eligible for the 2012 Emmy’s that aired between June 1, 2011 – May 31, 2012.
