If you were to ask me what the three greatest sitcoms of the last decade are, without batting an eyelash I would respond: Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Office (UK version, sorry).
In just three short seasons, Arrested Development, managed to be not only the funniest show on television, but perhaps it’s most clever and well written. The complex storylines, unlikeable Bluth Family and jokes and gags which circled back around and referenced themselves with such ubiquity forged a show that could never be duplicated. Show-creator Mitch Hurwitz rewarded longtime viewers for their loyalty, while also providing the occasional viewer with plenty of yucks.
Today, marks the fifth anniversary of Arrested Development’s final episode. Can you believe that? Five years! And while some people are clamoring for a movie, the show ended so perfectly that a movie version isn’t necessary. In fact, I’m pretty sure that a movie, while probably funny, would just sully the fondness we have for the Bluth Family.
So today, we are officially declaring February 10 to be Arrested Development Day. From now until eternity. Here are some of my favorite moments from the show, presented without explanation or context. Something tells me the Bluth Family would approve. Feel free to share your own favorite moments of the show.
