Bryan Fuller, the renowned writer/creator of such beloved (and quickly cancelled) sci-fi/fantasy shows like Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls and Better Off Dead, is taking his talents to the SyFy Channel for an adaptation of The Lotus Caves. Fuller’s playful and emotional sensibilities align fairly well with SyFy’s evolving direction.
The Lotus Caves revolves around lunar colonists who peek beyond their borders, only to discover intelligent aliens living in the titular caves. It’s not the most interesting premise, but given Fuller’s pedigree, he should be able to do something interesting with the material. And because it’s a TV movie and not a show, there’s no worries about falling in love only to see that love cancelled after seven episodes.
To me, Fuller has always been the overlooked geek genius of our times, suffering in the shadow of the much more beloved Joss Whedon and JJ Abrams. [via]
