Ed Westwick joins the cast of “Californication”

Actor Ed Westwick attends the premiere of "Is Anybody There?" aGossip Girl’s Ed Westwick, better known to the world as Chuck Bass, is going to sidle up to David Duchovny’s Hank Moody in the third season of Showtime’s Californication

But more interesting than this news, is the plot details it reveals regarding next season.  When we last left dear Hank, he was staying behind in Los Angeles to be with his daughter as Karen rode off into the proverbial New York sunset.

The new season finds Hank “trying his hand as a university professor. Westwick will play Balt, a student of Hank’s — and one with a hunger for vampire lit. The British actor will first appear in this season’s second episode.”

Other recently announced Californication guest stars include Embeth Davidtz (Mansfield Park), playing the wife of Peter Gallagher’s college dean; Eva Amurri (Susan Sarandon’s daughter), as another student; and Rick Springfield, who will serve up an exaggerated version of himself in at least one episode.

Sadly, Lew Ashby won’t be back.  Maybe the ghost of Ashby?  That guy rocked.

Overall though, great plot device and putting Hank amongst so many nubile college girls will crank the sexual/drug use to another level, we’re assuming.
