One of the things that I loved about the television show The X-Files was that there were always two distinct story-telling elements at play. There was the overall mythology of the show (alien abductions and Cigarette Smoking Man blah blah blah) and then there was the suspense/thriller/horror story of the week type of show.

Not that I didn’t love the mythology of the show, but I lived for the stand alone episodes. I loved getting that visceral fright. Which is one of the reasons I’m glad the new X-Files movie is modeled after the stand alone episodes.

No one really knows anything about the movie (impressive in this day and age) so around these parts we’re just hoping for a great suspense/thriller/horror yarn. The big question is will this movie feel like it was a story worth telling on the big screen or will it, in the end, feel like an X-Files reunion show. Make us all happy and warm that Mulder and Scully are back together again on another adventure.

Over the weekend, the WonderCon gave X-Files nerds the first glimpse of actual footage from the movie.  The footage isn’t much, but judging by the audiences reaction there could be a small yet sizable audience for this movie.  Considering that the show went off the air six years ago and the last movie came out 10 years ago, it’s great to see there is still a strong connection to Agents Mulder and Scully.

Personally, I was just about one of the biggest X-Files fans.  When the show first came out, I was about 13 years old and that mix of horror, mythology, aliens, humor and sexual tension hooked me like nothing else.  I didn’t stick around for the end, but after watching this footage I can’t wait to reaquiant myself.

Hopefully, this means we’ll have an official trailer very very soon.

Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are back in the saddle nearly a decade after the first film, X-Files: Fight the Future and practically six years after the show fizzled away from meandering plots lines and a total lack of answers. Plus, even though Robert Patrick was bomb as liquid metal T-1000, he couldn’t live up to David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder, in the waning years of the show.

So you know, given all of that it seemed totally logical to creator Chris Carter to go ahead with a sequel. You know why? Because nimwits like me will gladly plunk down some dinero for a trip down memory lane. USA Today got their grubby mitts on the first two production stills of the movie.

And they’re kinda lame, except Scully is most definitely a milfy cougar. Still, the photos could have been more exciting than say, Scully and Mulder walking in the hall? Really? That’s how you get me pumped for this flick? Pathetic.
