High School girl bags an alligator

You know how there’s that thing where a high school girl gets picked up for her first date and the dad answers the door and he’s all like, stroking his shotgun, and tells the young lad, “you know what’s in store for you if you lay a hand on my daughter.”

Yeah, that probably isn’t the case for 16-year-old Cammie Colin of South Carolina.  It’s not that the cheerleader couldn’t get a date, it’s just that she killed a 10-ft. alligator with a crossbow as part of the state’s alligator lottery.  What I’m saying, is she can protect herself.

Colin, at 5-foot 4-inches and 120 pounds, was the only person in her group authorized to shoot the 353-pound gator. The Lexington resident was with a guide, her father, an uncle and her brother in an 18-foot boat early Sunday in the headwaters of Lake Marion.

The crossbow fired an arrow with a line attached to it, so that when the arrow hit the gator the hunters and their boat were dragged by the animal for about an hour until it tired. At that point, the guide shot it through the head.

“My classmates were amazed,” The State reported Colin as saying. “They didn’t think I was serious about going gator hunting.”

I can only hope my non-existing daughter is this fierce.

Rep. Joe Wilson Begs for Campaign Contributions

YouTube Preview Image

“Not to be outdone by his potential opponent for Congress in 2010, Rob Miller, who has raised more than $350,000 since Wilson’s now infamous “You Lie” outburst, the congressman has a new video in which he explains his behavior and then goes on to ask for… campaign cash.”

South Carolina governor offers unemployed prayers instead of stimulus funds

From Think Progress:

Following the lead of a number of his fellow Republican governors, Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC) has given some indication that he will not accept some of the money slated for South Carolina in the $787 billion economic recovery bill President Obama signed into law last week. “At times it sounds like the Soviet grain quotas of Stalin’s time,” Sanford said yesterday on Fox News.

On C-SPAN’s Washington Journal this morning, Sanford received a call from a Charleston resident who said he lost his job because he has been taking care of mother and sister, both of whom have serious illnesses. The caller told Sanford he is “wrong” to decline the money. “A lot of people in South Carolina are hurting. And if this money can come and help us out we need it.” In response, Sanford could offer him only his prayers.

Glad to see partisan politics aren’t getting in the way of you know, actually helping people. Sometimes I wish Democrats were as partisan and insane as Republicans.
