Huey Lewis singing about the Pineapple Express

Huey Lewis is responsible for some of the best movie songs during the eighties. He’s no Kenny Loggins, but “The Power of Love” is pretty dope. Now thanks to Team Apatow and Seth Rogen, Lewis is back with another movie song that should go straight to the heart of any 80’s kid.

His contribution to the stoner comedy Pineapple Express is now available to stream. And I’ve got to say, it’s got a nice “Power of Love” vibe to it. Not only do I want to ride the Pineapple Express, but I’m also probably not alone in thinking Huey Lewis should do the soundtrack for every movie made from now on. He’s like Midas.

Sample lyrics: “We got trouble, we got to get out of here. I’ve got you, you’ve got me. We are as high as we can be. That’s all right. How did we get into this mess? Pineapple Express!” All with those trademark blue-eyed horns in the background.

You can listen to a snippet below or hear the whole thing at Myspace.

The stream is courtesy of Rodrigo over at The Playlist.

Pineapple Express stars James Franco and Seth Rogen as a pair of stoners, who get high and get caught up in a shit storm when they watch the police murder someone. It’s directed by indie-auteur David Gordon Green. The comedy hits theaters on 8.8

“Pineapple Express” red band trailer

This trailer is much more successful than the recent Forgetting Sarah Marshall redband trailer. Again, though, you would expect that when we’re talking about a stoner comedy from Seth Rogan and Even Goldberg (the duo behind Superbad).

We’ve got another Judd Apatow-produced comedy on our hands this summer, well, actually it’s four in 2008 if you’re counting the could-be-good Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the not so good looking Drillbit Taylor (starring Owen Wilson as a washed up bodyguard), and the equally not good looking You Don’t Mess With the Zohan (starring Adam Sandler as a former Israeli soldier turned hairdresser).

Still, this one directed by indie-auteur David Gordon Green (George Washington, All the Real Girls, Snow Angels) reteams Freaks and Geeks costars Seth Rogan and James Franco (glad to have him back in comedy where he belongs) as a pair of stoners who witness a drug-related murder and then go on the lamb.

Even in this trailer there are a lot of promising moments, from Franco describing the titular pineapple express weed as “god’s vagina” and then he bloodies his leg while attempting to stick it through a car windshield. Good stuff all around.

Bonus points for sublimely working M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes” into the trailer.
