Watch the first episode of Diablo Cody’s new sitcom

usoftara-439x356

Showtime has released the debut episode of The United States of Tara on Sho.com. Click the link and enter the password “tara” and you’ll be able to watch the entire 30 minute pilot episode of the Diablo Cody-scripted/ Steven Spielberg-produced television series. If you watch the episode, please let us know how it is.  We might get around to watching this.  Eventually.

Juno gets worse as time goes on and it was pretty infuriating the first time we watched it.  But Cody’s sitcom, er, show, or whatever it is has one thing going for it.  And that is the ever awesome Toni Collette.  Seriously.  We bow down at her alter.

Toni Collette stars as Tara Gregor, a wife and mother of two teens, who just happens to suffer from multiple personality disorder and the family must find a way to deal.  At some point there will probably be inane dialogue that passes off as clever or cute, but it’s really just cloying; also?  Everyone will act totally blase about her multiple personalities cause that sort of thing is no biggie.

United States of Tara premieres on January 18th 2009.

The Razzies and the Independent Spirit Awards

Not much to report here, but Juno cleaned up at the Independent Spirit Awards and Lindsay Lohan’s trashterpiece I Know Who Killed Me cleaned up at The Razzies.

The fourth acting “dis-honor” announced at Saturday’s Golden Raspberry Awards ? which honors the worst from Hollywood ? went to Lindsay Lohan, who actually was voted two worst-actress trophies for the thriller I Know Who Killed Me, the worst-picture winner in which she played dual roles.

I Know Who Killed Me set a new Razzies record with eight awards, including worst screen couple for Lohan in her double role.

Which also gives us one more moment to say Juno was written by ex-stripper Diablo Cody.? This, however, I loved from the Independent Spirit Awards.

After being greeted on the red carpet with a glass of Champagne, Ledger’s friend Sienna Miller, who is playing an evil baroness in G.I. Joe, was brought to tears just at the mention of Ledger’s name. “I just can’t without bursting into tears. Sorry,” she said.

Not that I don’t doubt her sincerity, but for whatever reason I keep picturing a Chris Guest mockumentary, where Sienna Miller never met Heath Ledger, she just thinks crying would be a good career move for her.

2008 Independent Spirit Awards

2008-indy-spirit.jpg

The nominees for this year’s Independent Spirit Awards have been anounced, which means we’re kicking off the movie awards season now.? Makes our head’s spin just trying to keep up with all the awards given out.? The award elves are probably not very happy right now.

This year Todd Hayne’s Dylan biopic, I’m Not There, was showered with the love, as was ex-stripper turned writer Diablo Cody’s (I just love writing that line for some reason) flick Juno.? Actually, Juno was directed by Jason Reitman and written by Cody, but saying Ivan Reitman’s son isn’t nearly as fun for us.

Many of these movies are already on DVD, so get out there and get watchin’!? If they aren’t on DVD, then there’s a good chance some of these flicks will be hitting the theaters soon.? Even if it is just your local art house.

The awards show will be on IFC, Sat., February 23.? List of nominations after the jump.? Good year for indie’s even if indie stalwart Ed Burns doesn’t think so. MORE »

Megan Fox getting her crazy cheerleader on

Transformers hottie Megan Fox (who we’re still not convinved would ever want to get with Shia LeBeouf in the movie despite her checkered past and outsider ways) has signed on to star in Fox Atomic’s supernatural thriller Jennifer’s Body.

The flick was written by Diablo Cody (who has the best non-porn name ever by the by) responsible for indie-darling sleeper Juno.

The story, described as similar in tone to “Heathers” and “Beetlejuice,” follows a cheerleader with a perfect life who becomes the girl from hell when she gets possessed and begins killing boys in a small town. Her best friend must then find a way to stop her.

There’s no indication which role Fox has signed on for, whether it’s the best friend or the psychotic cheerleader. We’re hoping it’s the cheerleader role. Fox can next be seen in the comedy How to Lose Friends and Alienate People with Simon Pegg and The Dude himself, Jeff Bridges.

Yup, The Dude certainly abides.

UPDATE: Looks as if Megan Fox will be portraying the cheerleader.? From a blog posting on Diablo Cody’s (ah it’s a fake name that’s why it’s so good - her real name is Brooke Busey-Hunt) own personal blog:

?This is going to be fun. I wrote this script last summer and have been fucking obsessed with getting it made ever since.

Incidentally, Megan Fox is hotter than the earth’s core. And now– Hollywood’s tiresome profusion of “girlfriend roles” be damned– she’s going to literally get out there AND DESTROY SOME FUCKING BOYS.

Sounds great to us!
