Flash Forward commercials during Lost

So last night was as crazy/action-packed episode of Lost as they come.  Farraday getting shot by his own mother?  If he’s dead does that mean that the cycle he’s trying to prevent just repeats itself over and over and over again until we keep coming back to that point?

Anyway, this isn’t about Lost this is about those strange advertisements that were run during lost.  The “what did you see?” ads.

flashforwardTurns out they’re for a show that doesn’t even exist yet; the clips are actually the start of the network’s campaign for Flash Forward. Though the show doesn’t exist, it’s safe to say that if ABC is running ads now, then the show has gotten the green light.

I doubt very much they would be running ads to see if there is enough initial interest to pick up the show. Then again, with the way networks decide on shows and tv lineups, nothing would surprise me regarding their terrible business decision.

But back to Flash Forward. It’s based upon Robert J. Sawyer’s novel about what happens when the entire human race loses consciousness for about two minutes (in the ABC version it’s two minutes and 17 seconds) and sees events that will happen 21 years in their future (in the ABC version they’ve reduced it to six months). According to Pop Critic, “Flash Forward chronicles the chaos that ensues after a scientific experiment begins goes badly.”

ABC hopes to have the show ready to replace Lost when it ends it’s remarkable run in 2010.  Only a pilot has been shot starring Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Christine Woods and Sonya Walger.  Production was overseen by David Goyer and Brannon Braga.

I like Goyer, mostly, and the cast with Joseph Fiennes and John Cho is respectable enough. The show was orignally developed for HBO and they were excited for the show, but felt it would work better on a network.

Hard to make any judgements since there hasn’t been any footage to see, except for those annoying commercials.  Which you can see all five here.  MORE »

David Goyer to direct Mignola’s vampire story

Genre favorite David Goyer has signed on with New Regency Studio to tackle another vampire based property. Instead of Marvel’s Blade franchise he’ll be adapting the Mike Mignola graphic novel Baltimore, or the Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire.

Hopefully, they’ll be able to come up with a better name for the movie, but so long as the story is dope who cares what it’s called. Mignola has a history of delivering. He’s about to see his most-famous creation appear on the big screen for a second time, when Guillermo del Torro drops Hellboy 2.

This story sounds kind of cool and I guess when it comes to vampire stories these days, originality counts for very little and it’s all about how you spin the same old tale.

Just-published by Bantam, the graphic novel tells the story of the awakening of supreme evil on Earth. Lord Henry Baltimore is bitten by a demonic vampire bat on a WWI battlefield. The plague destroys his family, and Baltimore creates a team to hunt and fight the Red King, the embodiment of all evil.

Nothing new, but sounds cool nonetheless. And a David Goyer and Mike Mignola team up can only be a good thing for Fanboys.

Goyer taking on ‘Magneto’

David S. Goyer, super stud writer of genre fare, like oh say, the little known movie, Batman Begins, The Blade Trilogy, the recent The Invisible, and cult classic Dark City.  He’s also attached to several films like The Flash and Jumper.

Now word comes from yonder that Goyer is stepping into the directors chair for the Magneto film.  It’s sort of a precursor to the X-Men films.  Following the early years when Professor Xavier and Eric Lench were superpowered friends, the film assumingly will deal with the events causing the fallout between the two.

Actors Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart won’t be in the film, their roles will go to actors in their 20’s or 30’s.   Could be good or it could be a disaster.  Goyer is really lacking when it comes to directing the material he writes.  Maybe it’s that he hasn’t found the right property, but whenever another director takes his material the movies are generally gold and whenver Goyer directs, well, we don’t want to rag on him too much.
