Coachella lineup

Coachella Music Festival has announced its initial lineup for version 2008.? Well they haven’t announced anything, but sources have confirmed that Portishead will be headlining.? Also scheduled to make appearances will be: Rilo Kiley, My Morning Jacket, The Verve, Jack Johnson and The Breeders.? The official announcement should come later today.? We’ll update when that hits in the LA Times.

Coachella, which will be held April 25-27 at Empire Polo Field in Indio, Calif., will be Portishead’s first show on American soil in nearly a decade. The pioneering U.K. act has a new, as-yet-untitled album due in April internationally, with U.S. details still pending.

The newly reunited Verve will also be touching down Stateside for the first time since splitting in 1999, while the Raconteurs, featuring the White Stripes’ Jack White, will be plugging their sophomore album, due in late spring or early summer.

This makes us ask?? Does Jack White ever take a day off?? It seems like he moves from one project to another without taking a rest or a much needed vacay.

Langerado kicks off music festivals

Sure Coachella, Pitchfork, SXSW, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza have all the buzz on the music festival circuit (i.e. they sell out really quicklly) but Langerado is trying to become the buzzed about first big festival of the year. Things kick off March 9-11. It’s now going on it’s five year and this years concert features such big names as Widespread Panic, moe., Assembly of Dust and Trey Anastasio for all you hippie kids out there. And for all you indie rock kids there’s plenty to listen to including The Hold Steady, Band of Horses, The New Pornographers, MMJ, Girl Talk and Rodgrigo y Gabriela.

Not too shabby, especially cause that’s just scratching the surface. General admission tickets are still available but grab’em now cause on March 1, the prices will be raised to $145. South Florida is pretty awesome this time of year. It’s nice and warm without being disgustingly muggy. Much better than the weather for Coachella in April.

As an added bonus they’ll also have tickets onsale for a couple of latenight club shows featuring several of the acts. Has anyone gone to Langerado in years past and has more of an idea of what’s in store for people? This sounds like it could make for a good festival? They’ve got a good mix of acts and it’s in a nice location. But everyone knows it’s the music that ultimately sells these things.
