The Lamborghini Reventón Roadster

reventon_roadster_02

Excess and Lamborghini go hand and hand.  Though I still prefer the classic and sophisticated lines of the Ferrari, the other Italian automaker still creates an intimidating beast of a car.  There is something primal about a Lamborghini — it is a swirling mess of super-ego and id raging on two axels.

The V-12 supercar looks like an attack vehicle from the future. ”The 6.5 liter, 12-cylinder mill puts out 662 horsepower. The car does 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds. It tops out at 205 mph,” according to Wired Magazine.  “But the most important number is 20. As in that’s precisely how many Lamborghini will build.”

Which means you probably have to know a few people and have $1.6 million dollars to shell out for it.

Supercar showdown

YouTube Preview Image

The guys at Top Gear went to Dubai to square off yesteryear’s supercar, the McLaren F1 against today’s supercar, the Bugatti Veyron. I love the F1, but watching the Veyron (paddle shifts and all) go toe to toe with an amateur driver is pretty impressive. [via]

GM Reinvention commercial

YouTube Preview Image

The rebranding has already begun now that GM has filed for Chapter 11 and 60% of the company is owned by the US Government.  The automaker unveiled this commercial, in the hopes that you would buy their pledge to change.  GM has also set up an entire website dedicated to educating consumers about the road to recovery; visit GM Reinvention for more info.

You’ll excuse me if I don’t fall for this.  It all seems a little bit like apologizing for getting caught doing something wrong.  Like they’re not sorry for doing the bad deed, they’re just sorry everyone is upset with them.  Maybe if they had looked at their business plan ten years ago, heck, fifteen, and began to reinvent themselves then, they wouldn’t find themselves in this position.

Lambo Tractor

lambo-tractor-webjpg

You learn something new everyday: Ferruccio Lamborghini started out building tractors and only got into the sportscar business to piss off Enzo Ferrari.  I still prefer to classic styling of the Ferrari over the Lamborghini, for whatever reason I associate the Lambo with meatheads from South Beach. That’s not always the case, of course, but generally my gut reaction.

Imagine being a farm boy from Iowa and driving the Lamborghini Toro out to the fields everyday.  Yowzas.  The concept was created by Canadian designer Jason Battersby.  [via Clusterflock]

Aston Martin Rapide

astonmartinrapide

The first official image for the new Aston Martin Rapide has hit. Never has a four dour sports car looked so sexy.  If James Bond had a family this is what he’d drive.  Just wish the front grill wasn’t so straight.  Seems it could use a littler tapering.

From the Auto Blog:

One of the most obvious competitors to the Rapide is the new Porsche Panamera, and while the two cars share much in concept, they have diverged greatly in styling. Porsche went for function over form, ensuring that adult-sized rear passengers can fit comfortably and see out of the car. The sweeping greenhouse of the Aston looks like it might leave a tighter, more claustrophobic rear compartment. Also, Porsche calls the Panamera a gran turismo while Aston calls the Rapide a four-door sports car, an appellation far more fitting here than on a Nissan Maxima.
