Cops have a field day at Phish concerts

To the tune of $1.2 million dollars in illegal drugs, $68,000 in cash from concert goers and locked up 194 dirty hippies over the weekend.  “Tourism officials had estimated 75,000 fans would be coming to the coastal Virginia city. Nearly 200 law enforcement officers worked the weekend event, with the Vermont-based band picking up the tab.”  Still, those shows were killer.  I’ve had night one on replay since Saturday morning, brah.  [AP]

Shep Fairey in jail

faireyboston

First the AP accuses him of copyright infringement on the Obama poster, now Shepard Fairey is in jail for tagging.

Shepard Fairey was arrested Friday night on his way to the Institute of Contemporary Art for a kickoff event for his first solo exhibition, called “Supply and Demand.”

Two warrants were issued for Fairey on Jan. 24 after police determined he’d tagged property in two locations with graffiti based on the Andre the Giant street art campaign from his early career, Officer James Kenneally said. One of the locations was the railroad trestle by the landmark Boston University bridge over the Charles River, police said.

Fairey, 38, of Los Angeles, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Brighton District Court, said Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk District Attorney. Wark said Fairey would also be arraigned on a default warrant related to a separate graffiti case in the Roxbury section of Boston.

Fairey has spent the last two weeks in the Boston area installing the ICA exhibit and creating outdoor art, including a 20-by-50 foot banner on the side of City Hall, according to a statement issued Saturday by the museum.

The museum said Fairey was released a few hours after his arrest. Boston police confirmed Fairey had been released, but did not know exactly when or the amount of his bail.

Many of the Boston artworks have already shown up on Flikr.  (Photo courtesy of Sabeth718)

Rhys Meyers gets blotto in Dublin … surprise, surprise

creepy.jpg

Mollygood is reporting that formerly sober actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers is back on the sauce…in a very public way, by being arrested at:

“Dublin Airport on Sunday for public drunkenness and breach of peace after exhibiting “‘erratic, abusive’ behavior at an airport gate and an airline desk…” That’s bad, but it gets worse: “Rhys Meyers told the AP back in 2006 that he ‘would never drink again’ to help preserve his career.”

PEOPLE adds:

“Rhys Meyers, 30, was refused permission to board a London-bound flight when police confronted the actor twice after erratic, abusive behavior at an airport gate and at a desk of the British airline BMI, the Associated Press reports.

Dublin Airport Police said they called Ireland’s national police force, the Garda Siochana, after Rhys Meyers refused repeated requests to calm down, reports the AP.

The Cork-born actor and star of Showtime’s “The Tudors” was held for a short time, charged under Ireland’s Public Order Act and released on his own bail. He is due in court for his arraignment Dec. 5.

Rhys Meyers, who earlier this year did a stint in rehab, was in Dublin to promote his new movie “August Rush.”

Wow. I’m sure Dublin Airport has had more drunk and disorderly conduct than say, Omaha Eppley Airfield. He must have fallen hard off that wagon. Hopefully, this time around in rehab, they can teach him to stop staring into people’s souls via photographs–he always looks so cracked out. And is he with Freddie Highmore from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” in the above photo? Must be: he also stars in “August Rush.”

Who Gets Drunk and Goes to Walgreens?

shiamugshot.jpg

IMAGE COURTESY OF THE SMOKING GUN

Finally, a little hometown skivvy: “Transformers” star Shia LaBeouf was arrested this morning at a Walgreens on Michigan Ave in Chicago after a night of partying with clubowner and general douche Billy Dec. Apparently, the security guard in Walgreens thought he was too drunk to be there, and Shia disagreed, though “politely” is how he was described by cops.

After I typed this heading, I must retract: I can’t count on one hand how many times I’ve been drunk in a Walgreens. They have great refrigerated beverages and a whole wall of smokes, which are both the reasons I probs went in there. And while the hooded sweatshirt speaks in favor of his wholesome image, the glassy eyes are a strong argument.
