The trailer for “this year’s most anticipated show” or something like that has made it’s way to the intertubes. Now that we know Tori Spelling won’t be back for the show, and we have to wonder how long Shannon Daugherty will stick around for, just a glimpse was all it took to remember that this was the show in the early 90’s.
I’m just hoping the CW uses the same theme music. I’m sure there are other people on the show worth discussing, but most likely not.
About midway through the first season they should bring back Andrea Zuckerman to run the high school paper. Just a suggestion.
A few random casting things we felt compelled to share. First, The CW’s new 90210 sequel landed a major coup by getting Nat (Joe E. Tata) to come back to the Peach Pit. No word on if he’ll be a recurring character again. But, wow, awesome. Now if we can just secure Dylan and Brandon. Robert Downey Jr. is making the most of his post-Iron Man celebrity by signing up to play Det. Sherlock Holmes for director Guy Ritchie. This is supposed to be a grittier version of the detective, closer to the heroin-using, opium-smoking detective from the books. Can’t wait to see what RDJ does with that.
The CW’s new 90210 sequel is looking better and better, what with Shannon Dougherty, Tori Spelling and possibly Ian Zeiring all reprising their roles from the original. Now if only Nat comes back to man The Peach Pit we’ll be all set. EIther way, photos have surfaced showing the hangouts snazzy new exterior design. I had high hopes for the CW’s remake of 90210 when it was announced Cupid and Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas was going to be the creative force behind this show. Alas, he’s nowhere to be found and the new showrunners are Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah. The duo were writer’s on the short lived Judd Apatow high school show Freaks & Geeks, but they are also responsible for Life As We Know It.
The thing is, if you watch reruns of the original Beverly Hills 90210, created by Darren Star, it wasn’t that good. Poorly written and acted, but for whatever reason there is something that works about the show. Ian Zeiring perhaps?
And obviously the template of following around salacious rich kids works. See The OC and Gossip Girl. Regardless, the update with some random people like Aunt Becky from Full House and Jessica “Lucille Bluth” Walters and Michael from The Wire (dear god how do you go from that show to this? They should have worked in the plot line that his character was the same and Michael got adopted by a rich family and had to move from inner-city Baltimore) doesn’t look promising. I can honestly say, this is one show I’m not anticipating in the fall.
