#IDontNeedFeminism

When I saw that #IDontNeedFeminism is making the rounds on Twitter today, I seriously almost lost it. Because let’s be real we do not need the internet doing something like this for the umpteenth time.

I could go on all day about how ignorance and white privilege combine with the relative anonymity of the internet to give us this massive migraine of a hashtag. The way this type of thing gives me major secondhand embarrassment for, like, everyone.

But I was pleasantly surprised when I did some research on the hashtag to find it’s already being co-opted by the feminists of Twitter. So today’s post has become a quick shoutout to some of the best trolls I’ve seen so far:

@PedanticOtter: “#IDontNeedFeminism because it makes me feel happy and confident that the most common way to insult a man is comparing him to a woman”

@bailey_bean: “#IDontNeedFeminism because my son should not wear pink, attend dance classes, cry when he scrapes his knee, or respect his female classmates”

@DrJaneChi: “I mean, when you say #IDontNeedFeminism, what you’re saying is, ‘I got mine'”
