Please Help Support The Katie Fields Van Fund

Dear Sly Oyster friends, family, and readers,

I am writing to ask for your help and contribution to a fundraiser Dave, my husband, and I are organizing for his family – the Katie Fields Van Fund.

Dave’s mom passed away in December. His step-dad, Johnny, has been the primary caregiver for our niece Katie, who has the most severe form of cerebral palsy, since she was born. Johnny is a disabled coal miner with heart and back problems. He and Dave’s mom made a great team for Katie, who is unable to walk, talk, or take care of herself. It’s been hard for Johnny to lose his wife and harder still trying to take care of Katie by himself.

Their current vehicle is not wheelchair accessible, so we are trying to raise $20,000 so Johnny can get a wheelchair accessible van. It is very hard for him to get Katie, a full grown pre-teen, in and out of the car right now. Johnny needs reliable transportation to get Katie to doctor’s appointments, dentist appointments, and to school.

The cost of  wheelchair accessible van, even a used model, is very high. That’s why we are asking for your help today. If you feel like you can contribute anything to our fund, we would really appreciate it. The donation is not tax deductible, but know that we would be very grateful for your support.

We are using a secure and well-known fundraising website, where you can find out more information about Johnny, Katie and contribute to this this fundraiser.

We also ask that if you know anyone who would be interested in helping us reach our goal of getting Johnny and Katie a van, that you would please pass this information along. Every little bit we can raise will really help.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact myself or Dave or  James, a good friend for many years who’s been nice enough to give us this outlet. He really believes the community of Sly Oyster readers are the best people around and might be willing to help in a small, but profound way.

Right now, we are almost 25% of the way to our goal for the Katie Fields Van Fund! We have already received a number of generous donations, and have decide to hold a raffle! The prizes are all music or arts related, and there are some great packages. All donations over $50 received between today and March 2 will qualify for a prize.

We have four great packages to win, which is our humble way of saying thank you!

1. The Roots Music Lover Package for a donation of $50-99, which includes a number of cds and a t-shirt from roots bands personally curated by myself and Dave.

2. The Vinyl Lovers Music Package with 3 signed Appalshop Records and 10 various other records for a donation of $100-$149.

3. The Arts Lover Package (2 of these will be given away), with art from Pam Oldfield Meade, a Kentucky painter, and John Haywood, for a $150-$200 donation.

4. The Big Grand Prize: For a $200+ donation is a weekend vacation in Knoxville, Tenn., for the Rhythm N Blooms Music Festival. The prize includes 2 nights at the Hampton Inn, 2 passes to the festival, food and drinks from Oodles and Preservation Pub, and signed merchandise from several of the artists playing the festival!

Please consider making a donation of any amount. While a donation of $5 might seem insignificant, it would mean the world to myself, Dave, and most importantly to Johnny and Katie. PLEASE spread this fundraiser with all your Facebook friends! We hope that this raffle will really boost our efforts, and are excited to give away such fun stuff!

Thanks so much for your time and help.
