In Praise of Slow News

There are some news stories you need to know right away, like in the case of the Colorado shooting last night at the opening of The Dark Knight Rises. But, mostly, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the best way to digest the news is through Dave Pell’s Next Draft newsletter and Mule Design’s Evening Edition.

Both are designed to catch people up on the big daily events in an single, easily digestible manner. Essentially, they offer a paragraph of text on a handful of stories that is just enough to help you understand what happened during the day.

Next Draft arrives in the afternoon and Evening Edition publishes a bit later in the day. Recommend both highly, especially, if you have better things to do that watch the evening news or scan Twitter throughout the day, or read a thousand blogs.

I’m slowly getting to that point.
