Shigeru Miyamoto to Step Down at Nintendo

Shigeru Miyamoto is still, in many ways, akin to Steve Jobs, despite not being the CEO for Nintendo. Miyamoto is responsible for creating or overseeing the creation of such legendary games as Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and many other games.

He announced he is stepping down from his role as manager of Nintendo’s Entertainment Analysis and Development branch to work among a smaller team developing smaller games in a much shorter amount of time.

The gaming company has been mired in a funk since the launch of the Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Sure, the Wii was kind of a hit at first, but most people grew tired of it because there weren’t any decent games. They just haven’t competed, really. However, Miyamoto has always been considered a visionary. Time will tell how this one plays out.
