It’s difficult to tell whether or not I’d ever read or mention the new site, Hello Giggles, here if it weren’t partly responsible to Zooey Deschanel’s involvement with it. The female-oriented website, which launched last week, is also being birthed into this crazy content world courtesy of Sophia Rossi, producer, and Molly McAleer, writer/blogger.
Hello Giggles is cute, or at least feels sort of twee in its design, and I don’t mean that as some sort of insidious put-down. There is nothing wrong with being cute or twee.
The site intends itself as “the ultimate entertainment destination for smart, independent and creative females. Everything hosted on the site will be lady-friendly, so visitors need not worry about finding the standard Boys Club content that makes many entertainment sites unappealing to so many of us.”
Admirable, certainly. The world could definitely use more girly websites, even if the content isn’t anything notable yet.
Still, this article on being a single lady made me chuckle: “Either be super low maintenance or go full blown crazy to the point where you throw phones in the street and threaten the lives of attractive women in your eye line. They both work surprisingly well. In between won’t get you anywhere.” As a guy, I can say this is so very, very, true. Low maintenance or full-blown crazy is the only way to go through life.
Also, it should be worth noting that if Deschanel is fronting the money for this site, then you have to give her credit. It’s much better use of money than doing hard drugs and ending up like Lindsay Lohan. [via paste]
