An Airport Story that Doesn’t Suck

A pilot delayed a flight for a single passenger, because that passenger was trying to get to his grandson’s funeral, who had been murdered just days before, and was delayed by airport security.  “The pilot, informed of the family’s loss, had delayed the flight by 12 minutes to allow the man to board. When the man’s family thanked the pilot, he, in a line that I’m sure will be delivered in the film version by Jon Hamm, replied only: ‘They can’t go anywhere without me and I wasn’t going anywhere without you. Now relax. We’ll get you there. And again, I’m so sorry.'”  Enough reason to give Southwest Airlines my business.

Hundreds of pilots would have done the same. However, Southwest's culture is unique in that it encouraged the communication of the circumstances to flow from the front curb to the pilot. Kudos, Southwest!

Great story. Just another reason I love Southwest so much. They may be my favorite brand. Period.
