IBM’s New Computer Chip

It shouldn’t, but does surprise me, that IBM is still pursuing the development of faster and smaller supercomputers. They’re looking to break the exaflop (one million trillion calculations) plateau and think their new CMOS Integrated Silicon Nanophotonics method will make that possible.

BM has unveiled a new chip technology, called CMOS Integrated Silicon Nanophotonics chip technology, which enables a 10X improvement in integration density and produces smaller, faster and more power-efficient chips than is possible with conventional technologies.

Kind of wish they would design a mobile computing chip.
