I’m looking through you, you’re all the same

The House of Representatives issued an apology for slavery yesterday, 140 years after it was abolished.? The apology left nothing to the imagination as it was for the “fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality and inhumanity of slavery and Jim Crow.”

The apology was orchestrated by Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), a white Jew up for a tough reelection this year in an? majority African-American district. He’ll face airline lawyer Nikki Tinker, who is black, in the Democratic primary Aug. 7.

And while I say good for him and the 42 members of the Congressional Black Caucus who co-sponsored this apology (and I guess the 120 other Representatives including two Republicans! who endorsed this), it reeks of election desperation for Cohen.? You know, no one really apologizes for anything unless they are desperate enough.

So if the Native Americans get tax-free gas, cigarettes and casinos in exchange for us stealing their land and then genociding them, what’s 140 years of slavery and segregation worth?? Certainly more than 40 acres and a mule.

Also, apologies like this, while nice for pr are completely bullshit.
