So it appears that famous and wealthy actor Tommy Hanks has a son, aside from Colin, that has big aspirations of his own. How big? Well, for starters Chet attends the fabulous life of Northwestern University and not content to just soak up the tangible benefits of a beloved father, Chet has decided to embark on a career in hip-hop (his MC name is Chet Haze). Because, sure why not?
It’s 2010 and somehow, this all makes sense. From Gawker:
Chet Hanks is the son of actor Tom Hanks. He attends Northwestern University. Chet Haze is “an up and coming MC…Born and raised on the West Side of the Westside’s main city LA.” Yes, he has a new Northwestern-themed single.
According to Chet’s bio: “Living the college life, Chet’s days consist of chilling with his boys, attending class, and taking care of business. However, his nights consist of absolutely murdering tracks, and living what he is really spitting.” As Chet argues on the Twitter, “just realized my fb and first single was released on 1/11/11. I think its cuz im gunna win. you tell me.”
Fuuuuuuck. I’m pretty sure if I was the son of Tom Hanks and attended Northwestern I’d be aiming to be a book publisher or a professor or something so far removed from “rapper,” because you know, holy shit, right?
Anyways, his first single, “White and Purple” is set to the beat of Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow,” and is pretty much the worst thing since Asher Roth. The other way to look at his first track is to argue that it’s just a big ripoff of “White & Purple (NU Anthem 2010)” by Mo Greene, which came out months ago.
Either way, Tom Hanks’s son Chet wants to be a rapper. You think he’s doing it just because Tom Hanks named him Chet, which is like the toniest name you could give a white kid. Something, something cultural hegemony something, something. [via videogum]
