Leland Sundries, “Elegy”

Leland Sundries are a Brooklyn outfit led by Nick Loss-Eaton, with a very good and promising EP to their name.  Yes, there’s a certain lo-fi Americana sensibility to the band, and yes you can hear tinges of Lou Reed or Leonard Cohen or The Band or various musical touchstones.  But, I think that would be a disservice to Loss-Eaton, who obviously has a healthy appreciation for musical history, and is more interested in mining a bygone era for musical inspiration then he is the near past.

Their tune “High on the Plains” has become a mixtape/playlist secret weapon for me in the past year.
