Phil Collins Struggling to Play the Drums

The Genesis drummer has severe nerve damage, so much so that to play the drums he has to attach the drum sticks to his hands.  It’s made completion on his solo record of Motown covers incredibly difficult, but more than that it makes the rumors of  a Genesis-with-Peter Gabriel reunion unlikely.

“The first time I picked up the drum sticks after my neck surgery, they flew across the room because I couldn’t grip them. When I play, I’ve had to tape the sticks to my hand,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I can’t open a car door. I won’t get gruesome with you, but there’s a lot of things I can’t do. I’m left handed. I’m having an operation soon and there’s a good chance of it improving over time.”

Pretty sad news, especially for someone who unironically enjoys the work of Phil Collins.  Sure, that might make me a bit Patrick Bateman-ish, but still.
