Colin Meloy on The Decemberists new record, “The King is Dead”

“We had this expectation that the simpler songs would mean the sessions would be like a vacation,” he says. “But it was real work.  And it rained a lot on top of it.  No heat, no indoor plumbing, so if you had to go pee, you had put on your Wellies and go to a freezing outhouse. But I think that, in someway, it adds a nice vibe to the record.”

Colin Meloy, frontman for Portland’s The Decemberists, breaks down the bands upcoming record, The King is Dead, which he describes as simpler.  He also breaks down a few of the album’s key tracks for Spin.  Below is the first single, “Down By The Water” for your listening pleasure.
