Wilco (The Lawsuit)

jay_bennett5I suppose with the news that Wilco’s new album was named Wilco (The Album) and the first single is going to be “Wilco (The Song)”, the punned post title was probably unavoidable with the news that former-Wilco multi-instrumentalist Jay Bennett has filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against the band, claiming they owe him at least $50,000 in royalties.

Bennett played a huge part in the band’s direction on what many consider to be their finest album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (though I’m still partial to Being There in the Wilco album heirarchy [here’s my order: Being There, Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Mermaid Avenue I & II, A Ghost is Born, Sky Blue Sky, A.M.]).

During the recording and release of that album, which was documented for the monochromatic I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, it became pretty obvious that he and defacto leader Jeff Tweedy did not get along.  [AP]
