Reminder: Record Store Day is tomorrow

recordstaydayxRecord Store Day is tomorrow! Events are taking place at record stores across the country. Pitchfork has a good preview of all the special releases.

Last year I got to watch the guys in Menomena play foosball against the city of Portland. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to square off with them.

Not sure which event I’m going to bump around to, but I can’t wait.  Leaning towards seeing Loch Lomond and The Shakey Hands at Jackpot Records on Hawthorne St.

Of all the special records being released I’m most pumped up for the Thermals/Thao and the Get Down Stay Down split 7″ from Kill Rock Stars.

From P4K: “The Thermals’ side is four-track demos of the first and last songs from Now We Can See; they’re not as crisp and tense as the finished versions (and “When I Died” goes on longer), but it’s neat to hear them as work in progress, before they’d entirely fallen into place. Thao’s side has a studio recording of an undercooked song she recorded for her Daytrotter session earlier this year, and a cover of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind?” that’s not quite in the right key for her.”
