Jason Collett is a member of the Broken Social Scene collective, which makes his solo records somewhat of a surprise and pleasure.? He instantly calls to mind the roots rock of Dylan (including his uncanny vocal delivery), even some of the solo work of George Harrison? and that period of music generally.
His lyrical imagery, breezy tunes and songwriting chops offer something far different from the frenzied, experimental pop of a BSS album.? His 2008 album Here’s to Being Here is out now courtesy of the Canadian record label Arts & Crafts (too many great artists to name check but it’s one of the best in the biz).
Collett recently recorded a small video for the making of his song “Papercut Hearts.”? I love that he confesses the situation of writing a song dictates the mood and tempo of that song.
