The Weekend Ahead

Hey everyone! It’s been a long week and it’s finally catching up to me. I’m getting ready to fly back east to Boston for the week for Christmas and all that. Hopefully, my flight can avoid the big Nor’easter that’s rolling in. Oddly, it’s reassuring when people back east tell me there’s a “big” snow storm coming. Here in Portland everyone freaks out about potentially “the worst storm ever” and then you get maybe a light dusting on snow. There’s no exagerations going on in New England. So I’m just going to leave you with a bunch of links and stuff to mull over for today and the weekend and we’ll be back in tip top form next week with our big music year end blowout and some other stuff.

So About that strike, it doesn’t look like it’s going to end anytime soon. I’ve heard from several people that neither side is really going to cave on this one. And if I had to make a guess, it would be that the writer’s cave first. I’ve always recommended Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood, but a more personal site I’ve been going to lately is The Artful Writer. Several of their posts lay out the problems very well. Also these pieces in the NY Times and Wall Street Journal give the impression that neither side wants to budge. Hurray for reality television!

The Dark Knight strikes again. Wow talk about an awesome pirated trailer. THe quality is not good, but you get a great sense of what’s ahead. And even from these grainy images Heath Ledger scares the crap out of me. Word is this will be attached to I Am Legend today in regular theaters, in IMAX you get the six-minute prequel. Via: AICN

An adaptation of Mama Mia! is coming to theaters with Meryl Streep. Can’t say this does much for me, but I’m sure Mom Oyster will appreciate something for her for a change.

Speaking of I AM Legend three minutes have popped up online and it’s a scene where Will Smith hunts down some deer. Kinda cool, but I’m guessing PETA did not approve.

Lost is the greatest television show ever and thanks to the stupid writer’s strike we wont’ be seeing it until 2008 and then maybe not even then. But maybe this should get ya’ll excited for the upcoming season. I know I did.

- I’ve been looking long and hard and this is probably one of the best full shown recordings of Led Zeppelin from their reunion show last Monday. Grab it!.

- Spin has compiled their own list of the 40 Best Albums this year and, yup, you guessed it, absolutely no deviation from every other list that has been published.

J.K. Rowling sold a fairy tale for $4 million dollars yesterday, which is considerably more than the lock of John Lennon’s hair that sold for $48,000.

And finally, more Cloverfield viral videos. Just sorta get sick of this whole thing and I’m thinking a boycott of the movie is in order. Naw, just kidding this video looks sick.
