The Morning Catch

Sorry for the late start ya’ll.? After almost going to bed last night, I ended up blowing into The Hub for an impromptu karaoke session with two old friends, one in town from Des Moines and the other I’ve been attempting to make plans with for a little over a year now.

But who doesn’t love a good karaoke show?? Especially as one as bizarre as last night.? Wish I had video evidence but it’s not every day you realize The Beatles are the most important rock band ever because “Help!” done karaoke got the entire bar up signing, dancing, and clapping hands.? The Foundations “Build Me Up Buttercup” is a close second, and keep that tune in your back arsenal.

I also had my face severely melted by a dude who sang The Darkness’s “I Believe in a Thing Called Love.”? Now you have to imagine this.? A bearded guy dressed in tight red pants, a cut off T-shirt, leather motorcycle gloves, sweat bands on both fore arms, and he even rocked a mullet wig and head band showed up sang the song pitch perfect.? But it was the? dude’s stage presence – punk rock kicks, power slides, yielding the mic like a weapon from God, ill air guitar.? Needless to say, I was reduced to a giddy five year old.? In a history making performance, it was easily the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Some headlines to start the day, though nothing should take precedence over the Minnesota Bridge Collapse.? It was just horrific to watch, and everyone involved is in our thoughts this morning.

-? The good time Shrek bus just keeps rolling on.? Dreamworks has plans for two more sequels, meaning we’ll get part 4 and 5 to the sage, which should have ended after 2.? Oh well.? Also announced was Zack Snyder’s Watchmen will be pencilled in for March 6, 2009.

– Speaking of, Zack Snyder sat down with IGN to talk about his much anticipated movie adaptation after the Comic Con.

– Television genius Amy Sherman-Palladino nabbed indie goddess Parker Posey for her new show The Return of Jezebel James for FOX.? The show also stars Six Feet Under’s Lauren Ambrose.? And yes, that was the sound of us getting very excited for this show.

Michael Imperioli has joined the cast of Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones.? He’ll be playing a detective investigating the murder of a young girl.? This project is rounding into shape quite nicely.

– Heard about this one from the morning guys at WFNX.? John Mayer, Dave Matthews, NAS, and some others will play a concert for Virginia Tech students on Sept. 6.? Kind of nice that the tragedy there is not getting swept under the rug.
