Zero Dark Thirty is director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal’s fictionalized account of the Navy SEAL Team 6 mission to kill Osama Bin Laden.
Members of the GOP have cried foul over the film, claiming that Boal was handed sensitive information by the Obama administration in order to make the movie more accurate and realistic. The underlying complaints have the thin veneer suggesting that insider information will make Obama look better and raise his prospects ahead of the November election.
Boal has said that Obama is not even in the movie, which comes out December 19 and won’t impact the election regardless. Instead, the plot focuses entirely on the mission itself.
To be honest, the first trailer is something of a disappointment, resembling a trailer for a Tom Clancy movie instead of the most significant military mission in the last four years. I trust in Bigelow and Boal to deliver, given the success of The Hurt Locker and the source material.
