Morgan Spurlock’s “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold”

Morgan Spurlock digs deeps for some Inception-level shenanigans for his latest documentary, which he says “what I want to do is make a film all about product placement, marketing, and advertising, where the entire film is funded by product placement, marketing, and advertising.” Considering that the actual title of his new movie is Pom Wonderful Presents the Greatest Movie Ever Sold, I’d say he’s fairly close to achieving his goal.

The film feels like a classic Spurlock production, featuring interviews (um, Ralph Nader and Big Boi?), phone calls, and prankster-like plans being hatched; it’s interesting to see someone so indebted to Michael Moore explore the societal concerns of our generation — the health effects of fast food, the search for Osama bin Laden and now the ugly reality of advertising, product placement and marketing in a social media medicated world.

The movie comes out April 22 and we can’t wait.
