First Look at Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class”

Deep breaths.  Inhale giant deep breaths.  Nobody was more excited with the news that director Matthew Vaughn would be helming a reboot of the X-Men franchise than me.  The director has solid credentials and love for the material (he did want to helm X3 remember?).

So why then did Fox decide to kill any hope I had for this project with the release of the first promo material for the film?  This is seriously shoddy work and the exact opposite of what Sony did for the Spider-Man reboot.  The costumes look… okay?  That would be putting it kindly.  It’s really hard to tell with the terrible cast photo because the lighting is all screwed up and everything is waaaay too dark.

From left to right: Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert), January Jones (Emma Frost), Jason Flemyng (Azazel), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Lucas Till (Havok), Zoe Kravitz (Angel), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), and James McAvoy (Professor Charles Xavier).

Fox has proven time and time again that the studio doesn’t have the foggiest idea what to do with comic book franchises. [via io9]
