This looks like the greatest Jane Austen film-adaptation in the history of literary film adaptations. It’s all dark and spooky and appealy to men! Better, certainly, than Jane Austen Book Club, and that one movie with the skinny chick from Bend it Like Beckam and the other longer version of that movie with Colin Firth. Am I right? There’s nothing quite like watching a classic interpretation of a novel of manners.
Wait, what? Oh, sorry, it’s based on the Charlotte Brontë novel, Jane Eyre? Oh. Well that changes things. Okay then. This time around we have director Cary Fukunaga and a good cast including, Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Jamie Bell, Judi Dench, and Sally Hawkins with a flick that looks pretty dark and enticing.
Sure, Charlotte Bronte is no Jane Austen, but then few writers are on par with Austen. If she were a dude, she’d be as esteemed as any white man. Jane Eyre is set to be released on March 11, 2011 via Focus Features. [via Geek Tyrant]
