The idea of the Beastie Boys being time travellers is a fictionally sound one though. Their heads survived into the 31st century (see "Futurama").

Agreed 100% about Abrams true intentions with this scene, I just think it's more humorous if the Beastie Boys were intricately involved in the Star Trek universe/canon somehow, as either prophets or creators of the vulcan pinch or through some time travel…

Spock used the neck pinch on the Punk Rocker on the bus in the 80's when they went back in time to get whales so that Punk Rocker lived to tell the tale of the time some dude named Spock knocked him out with a neck pinch. The Beatsies could of hear this tale as it was past along in the music underground.

I suggest that the song Intergalactic was never produced by the Beastie Boys in the Star Trek Universe. Sabotage was released in 1994, Intergalactic in 1998. Supposedly in the mid-90s the Eugenics Wars occurred, which presumably could have disrupted the creative process and thus prevented the entire Hello Nasty album from being created.

ok, Temporal lesson number. we have time line. during this time line people jump back to a early point make no meaningful change and jump back. The universe does not notice.
then you have a second event in which people jump back to a 2nd earlier point AFTER the first one. they make a HUGE change directly altering the. as all previous events HAVE occurred they remain unchanged even if it directly effect the people form the first event.
The universe still doesnt notice because of two reasons. one it doesnt care. and two because in a complete multi-dimensional understanding of the universe. all things happen anyway.

The never showed the words "Sabotage" or "Beastie Boys" on the media player in the car. The song continues playing long after the car is launched over the cliff and destroyed and on into the next scene, space above Vulcan. Also, the song was not in the scene shown in the trailers.

Extending this logic… if this universe included a Beastie Boys song about Mr. Spock, then it must also contain a pre-existing Star Trek television series that was remarkably precient. Perhaps the show really is a bunch of Galaxy Quest-like "historical documents" that have been dropped through a time-warp by the crew, and they actually inspired young Kirk to become a captain to begin with.

In Star Trek IV, the Spock and friends time travel to 1986 to save the whales. That puts Spock at a point on the time-line prior to the Beastie Boys song being written.

The answer is clear; The Beastie Boys are intergalactic time travelers. They went to the future, presumable in a time bending phone booth, ideally with George Carlin and saw Spock do his famous move. Once, returning to the 90's they felt the neck pinch was worthy of raping about.

The music kept playing with no changes to volume or anything after the car went off the cliff. That made it ambiguous whether it was the movie soundtrack or what he was listening to.
