New Trailer: Max Payne

An international trailer for Max Payne has arrived courtesy of Mark Wahlberg looks to get back on track after starring in M. Night’s The Happening. Here he stars as Max Payne, a DEA agent undercover and looking to revenge the killings of his family.

The visual style, which was a hallmark of the video game (which itself was nothing more than a rip off of The Matrix’s bullet-time), comes off as dark and darker here.? It almost reminds me of what the first Punisher movie should have looked like.? Promising first trailer, but we’ll wait until October 17 when the movie is released to reserve judgement.

Honestly, our actual reaction is “lots of potential” but we suspect that this will be just another cliched action picture, nothing special.

Max Payne is directed by Irish filmmaker John Moore, of Behind Enemy Lines, Flight of the Phoenix, and The Omen previously, with a screenplay written by first-time writer Beau Thorne. The film is based on the popular Max Payne series of third-person-shooter video games that first arrived in 2001. Fox is debuting Max Payne in theaters on October 17th.
