I’m sure this isn’t new, but it’s just come to my attention.  Ice Age has become a pretty decent animated franchise.  I happened to think the first one was underrated and one of the better animated movies over the last decade, curiously however, I never got around to seeing the second one.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs comes out July 4 weekend.  And once you throw dinosaurs into the mix you’ve effectively killed your franchise.  It’s one of those gamble moves and if it pays off for Dreamworks Studios then kudos to them.

Still, all in all, this is an effective teaser.  The bumbling character of Skrat is a kid favorite, so if you have a niece or nephew or a young kid this might be a nice change of pace for what’s gearing up to be a bozo summer at the movies.
