Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are back in the saddle nearly a decade after the first film, X-Files: Fight the Future and practically six years after the show fizzled away from meandering plots lines and a total lack of answers. Plus, even though Robert Patrick was bomb as liquid metal T-1000, he couldn’t live up to David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder, in the waning years of the show.
So you know, given all of that it seemed totally logical to creator Chris Carter to go ahead with a sequel. You know why? Because nimwits like me will gladly plunk down some dinero for a trip down memory lane. USA Today got their grubby mitts on the first two production stills of the movie.
And they’re kinda lame, except Scully is most definitely a milfy cougar. Still, the photos could have been more exciting than say, Scully and Mulder walking in the hall? Really? That’s how you get me pumped for this flick? Pathetic.
Take the jump for some more deets about this movie.
According to the article:
The film, which remains without a formal title, will dump the long-running “mythology” plotline ? that aliens live among us and are part of a colonizing effort ? that made it one of the most popular television shows in the late 1990s but ultimately drove away some viewers who found it too complex and ambiguous.
“We spent a lot of time on (the mythology) and wrapped up a lot of threads” when the show went off the air in 2002, says Chris Carter, creator of the series and director of the new movie. “We want a stand-alone movie, not a mythology conspiracy one.”
Okay, that’s a good move. What else you got for me?
“There’s a whole audience I want to introduce X-Files to,” Carter says. “There were kids who couldn’t watch it on TV because it was too scary. Now they’re in college. I wanted a movie that everyone could go to.”
Hmm… anything else? Like plot points? C’mon you gotta give us something?
“For me, The X-Files has always been a romance,” he says. “They had an intellectual romance that’s very rare and restrained compared to so many relationships on TV. I think that’s what appealed most to the fans. And they’re back.”
Wow! I’ve always wanted to go see an intellectual romance flick. Can you pulease bring back the aliens?
