Billy Crudup cast as J. Edgar Hoover
Quickie. Billy Crudup, who’s going to star as Dr. Manhatten in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen adaptation, has been cast as FBI director J. Edgar Hoover in Michael Mann’s Public Enemies.
Crudup joins an already stellar cast of Johnny Depp (John Dillinger), Christian Bale, Marian Cotillard, Channing Tatum, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff and David Wenham.
The flick focusses mostly on the FBI’s manhunt for John Dillinger, but it also delves into an era when bank robbers and hooligans seemed to have their run of the monkey house in the midwest. The flick seems to play right into Mann’s sensibilities as a director (see: Heat).
We just hope Billy Crudup looks good wearing ladies clothing, though he’s already done that once before for that movie with Claire Danes called Stage Beauty. Anyway, looks like Billy Crudup may finally be getting to that breakthrough A-List stage people have been predicting for him for the past five years or so.
