The White House Beer Recipes

Sam Kass, the White House chef, has released the recipes for two beers brewed on-premises at the White House:  Honey Ale and Honey Porter.

I love that they include the use of honey made from the bee-hive on the South Lawn and aside from that, the recipes seem easy enough to make for the home brewer.

“As far as we know the White House Honey Brown Ale is the first alcohol brewed or distilled on the White House grounds,” Kass writes. “George Washington brewed beer and distilled whiskey at Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson made wine but there’s no evidence that any beer has been brewed in the White House.”

In the video above, the White House takes you behind the scenes of their brewing process. It also doubles as a great ad for Brewer’s Best, the home brewing equipment used by many.
