The 140-year evolution of Levi’s famous 501 conveniently ignores that the product is no longer made in America and in terms of quality, well, you know the deal. It’s all about fashion now instead of function.
Still, this is a remarkable slice of Americana, even as it doubles as a two-minute commercial. When you think about it, denim is one of a handful of truly American-invented works of art (well, technically invented in France, but perfected in America?). It’s right up there with Jazz as a middle finger to the rest of the world as a testament to American’s individualistic greatness. [via devour]
