Help Support Great Philly Theater (and a Sly Oyster Friend)

My college buddy, Ben Smallen, recently launched a Kickstarter to raise $3,000 for his production of Pasek and Paul’s EDGES at the 2012 Philly Fringe Fest.

If you don’t live in the Philly area a small $10 donation will go a long way towards helping him out; however, if you do, then $25 will get you a ticket to the can’t-miss production.

EDGES is the first work from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, winners of the 2007 Jonathan Larson Award. Written in 2005 when they were still students at the University of Michigan, EDGES deals with the difficulty of abandoning fear on the path to self-discovery. Characters explore their relationships with the important people in their lives, as they reveal the choices that affect them and the memories that disquiet the edges of their lives.

This beautifully composed song cycle examines the insecurities that prevent us all from being the people we want to be. This production will bring an innovative, contemporary musical theatre piece to Philadelphia for its professional premiere and will combine the talents of a number of local artists. We hope to inspire passion for non-traditional, contemporary musical theatre and parlay this production into future Philadelphia musical premieres.

All funds raised will go directly towards paying for production rights, performance venue, rehearsal space, marketing, technical aspects of production, and paying our performers.

Gone on and help him out. It feels so good. There is just 16 days to go and so far he’s raised $535 towards his goal.
