The Shadow Scholar

There’s a serious discussion at Metafilter going on right now, on whether or not it’s academic cheating to hire people to write papers for you.  More so, it’s also an interesting look into the nature of paid education and learning.  To me, it seems that paying someone to do your work for you is tantamount to cheating.  Does that make it morally wrong?  I don’t know, it seems like higher education has become part and parcel of the free market economy and so, essentially outsourcing your college work doesn’t seem wrong.  With that said, I personally love the process of learning, the simple act of acquiring knowledge for its own sake.  And that’s what’s being cheated in this process.
