Lightening Captured by an X-Ray Camera

What does it take to capture the essence of lightening?  Well, it takes a camera that is custom built, can take ten million images per second, weighs 1,500 lbs., stops action at 1/6th the speed of light, and is essentially an x-ray detector housed in a box about the size and shape of a refrigerator.

But, the beauty of something so complicated is that you get images like the one above.  [via NatGeo]
