Graffiti artist Banksy unmasked, or not
The UK Daily Mail led a year-long investigation into the identity of infamous graffiti artist Banksy. I guess his secret identity was always something of a curiosity, but more so than his identity it was always the myths of who he might be that was interesting. Not only was his work kind of cool - there was something both humorous and political about it - but the power of his work was based on his anonymity. Like the best character actors we know nothing about and are able to slip in and out of roles, Banksy’s anonymity allowed us to interpret his work any way we pleased. Now, not so much. Now when we look at his graffiti as art, taking something negative and making it more bright we have to think of Robin Gunningham. Thanks Daily Mail.
