Yup, pretty much when John Turturro’s character looks up at Devastator and says over the radio, “I’m looking at the enemy’s scrotum” and the giant robot has two wrecking balls for a scrotum it’s the definitively crappy moment in a 2.5 hour pooh fest of twisted metal, loud explosions and inane plotlines.

It’s true!  Everything you heard about this movie from the very upset critics is spot on, so I won’t rehash it here for you.  However, if you haven’t seen the movie yet then watch the above clip and call yourself good.  You can read about the making of the clip here.

You’ll thank me for saving you the $10, which you can then go buy yourself a couple of beers or a bottle of wine with.  (big thanks to Scott who’s been absolutely killing it with the clips lately.

I don’t know if I’m in a silly mood or if this is the most retardedly funny thing I’ve seen in the last few days.  I’ve resisted posting on the Keyboard Cat because, well, it’s Keyboard Cat and you can find him posted just about everywhere else.  But there was something about Helen Hunt doing PCP and jumping out a window and then Keyboard Cat jamming with Hall and Oates that just won me over.

Unrelatedly, is it impossible to properly rate Hall & Oates in music history?  They went from popular to scorned to ironically popular again to people actually remember they were pretty good for a blue-eyed soul band from the 80’s. [via Cynical-C]

This student-animation project using post its, which took something like six months to film, has been floating around the tubes for a few days now. Ancient in internet terms. But it’s still pretty cool. And since things weren’t happening yesterday, I’m sorta cleaning out the coffers.

When the fire alarms when off in college during the middle of the night, I usually just rolled over and went back to bed.  But these guys take the fire alarm and make sweet, sweet psych rock with it.

It was bound to happen at some point.  DJ Steve Porter cuts up Vince Shalomi.

A couple of thoughts on this squirrel video.  First, this is the best thing you will watch all day.  Honestly, I was riveted from start to finish.  Narratively this is as gripping a story as they come.  It’s got everything a great Disney movie should have. Hint, hint.

Compelling animal leads?  Check.  Baby animal trying to make his way in the world?  Check.  Overcoming great odds?  Check.  Help from unexpected places?  Check.  A satisfying conclusion that will definitely break out the applause/hankies?  Check.

Mike Winklemann’s gorgeous CGI short “Subprime” follows the development of simplified housing solutions in America over time.  While it’s easy to be entranced by the music and animation, the content itself doesn’t really offer anything for than a progression of housing – it would have been nice to see the creators do something more than tack a “for sale” sign on to the final house as if trying to making a larger point about the housing crisis.

Still, at what point is too much?  Most people live in houses that are more than enough, too much, for their needs.

This has been making the rounds over the weekend.  I’ve watched it untold number of times.  French prankster Remi Gallard does a real-life version of the popular video game.

Whatch’you talkin’ bout Willis?  Talkin’ bout innercity pedophile blues, which incidentally is the name of the first single from my Marvin Gaye-Bob Dylan mashup album.

Some of these low budget flick are actually pretty good, but most of them just come off as masturbatory.  It’s the logical extension from people watching Richard Linklater’s early work like Slacker or Before Sunrise and thinking hey I can do that.  Except they can’t.  But they still do.  Hence mumblecore.

Jake Szymanski’s “The Dirty Garage” may not have the couches rolling down the street of Billy Was a Deaf Kid, or the retarded cats of Charley the Retarded Cat (still the gold standard of hipster movie parody videos), but it may be the most accurate parody of the three.

I resisted posting these guys’s Forrest Gump homage, because I don’t really like the movie.  Except Lt. Dan.  He’s cool in my book.

My first thought was this has to be fake, but even if it is, a sort of giddy euphoria washes over your soul after a little bit and it’s pretty hard to resist The Baaa-Studs.  It is an advertisement for Samsung’s LED televisions, but if you’re going to make an advertisement, this is how you make one to ensure people are talking about it.

Cody Lambert’s uncle (or Bobby Ewing for the older folks) getting brought up to speed on Facebook and ring tones from a judgmental animatronic crab. No, it doesn’t make a lick of sense.  But I want to live in a world where Patrick Duffy hangs out with animatronic animals.

Also: Patrick Duffy has his own YouTube channel, hopefully he produces more of these shorts with him and the crab because this is gold.  I could go for one a month, but would prefer one a week.

It’s a good job of internet ethnography.  A great place to start if you’ve met someone totally clueless or want to stroll down the memory boulevard.  Also, if people look back at the internet, or what it was during it’s genesis, and this is what they remember I will feel ashamed.

This five minute video was made by Reza Dolatabadi as his graduate film in college. It took over two years to complete and is comprised of 6,000 individual paintings shown at a rate of 20 per second. Pretty amazing.

While this hasn’t been done since 1972, when Nixon was President for crying out loud, Drew Carey is amazing apathetic about it. If Bobby Barker had been there he probably would have had a heart attack.

Let me say it again: A man guessed his Showcase Showdown dollar amount EXACTLY right. Yes — on the nose. And it wasn’t like the amount was a round figure, it was $23,743. Unfortch, for the other lady who came within $495, a good guess on any other day.

I think Will Leitch said it best, when he compared this to Slumdog Millionaire (which also points out the fantastical plot elements of the movie).

I’m just going to assume that this segment had already been filmed, and this was a reshoot. What happened in that initial segment?

I’m guessing that Drew Carey, after Terry’s bid was dead-on, called in his secret squad of game-show ethics enforcers, who proceeded to torture Terry into explaining how he cheated. But little did they know! It turns out that Terry grew up in the ghettos of East Hartford, overcoming Dickensian child kidnappers, a vicious drug cartel and his complicated relationship with the older brother who was once his protector. During his whirlwind life, he actually had completely random — but whimsical! — lessons on the price of a Winnebago, a whirlpool spa and the matching dinette set. It was because of his amazing life that he was able to nail down exactly $23,743.

Shame nobody told him there’s no phone call at the end of The Price Is Right. He never did get to call his lifelong paramour, and she was shot in the back of the head and left for dead in a Burbank gutter. He does get to keep the dinette set.

Two things you should know about me: one, I literally cried at the end of this.  Tears ran down me cheeks.  And two, I’m now ready to kick some ass and take some names today.  There will be blood, oh yes, there will.  [via]

I have yet to see Summit Entertainment’s Twilight. Not because I’m against seeing it or because I think it looks stupid, well okay, it sorta looks stupid.  I’ll probably catch it on DVD.  Anyway, since it dropped into theaters with the fullforce of a hurricane, the director has been ceremoniously fired and possibly replaced by Chris Weitz (American Pie, Golden Compass, About a Boy).

The Puppet Saga isn’t nearly as good as Puppet Dracula from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but it gave me a good laugh nonetheless.

Still, I got a good laugh out of this mashup between Shawshank Redemption and movies from the 80’s. The music is “Push It To The Limit” by Paul Engemann from the Scarface soundtrack.  Montage! In all fairness though, this type of spoof slightly loses resonance because of the montage scene in Team America.

Though, this claymation cartoon is the kind of thing I would want to watch today or even as a kid. [via]

So Hellboy’s been added to the mix, except he’s with Dark Horse Comics (Milwaukie, OR!). It would have been nice if they made a Hancock toy and he could have shown up all drunk and then it would have featured every superhero from this summer, excluding Wall-E of course. Maybe the creators of this could work on that.
